    Announcing the Winners of the 12th United Nations World Oceans Day Photo Contest



    The winners of the twelfth annual Photo Competition for United Nations World Oceans Day were announced today surrounding the United Nations World Oceans Day celebration in Nice, France. A panel of world-renowned judges selected winners from thousands of global entries made by both amateur and professional photographers. This year’s competition featured the recurring categories “Big and Small Underwater Faces,” “Underwater Seascapes,” and “Above Water Seascapes.” The category “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us” was newly added in celebration of the 2025 UN World Oceans Day theme sharing the same name. The 2025 winning photographers hail from eight different countries: Rachel Moore, Luis Arpa, Steven Lopez (“Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us”); Andrey Nosik, Giacomo Marchione, Lars von Ritter Zahony (“Big and Small Underwater Faces”); Dani Escayola, Gerald Rambert, Pedro Carrillo (“Underwater Seascapes”); Leander Nardin, Nur Tucker, Andrey Nosik (“Above Water Seascapes”).

    Historically hosted at the UN Headquarters in New York, this year’s United Nations World Oceans Day moved overseas, taking place ahead of the UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3), which will also be hosted in Nice, France from June 9–13. The winning photographs will be presented live during the United Nations Ocean Conference, during a panel event on 11 June at the Agora in the La Baleine (Green Zone). The winning images will also be displayed in gallery exhibitions at NEO VogelART LAB (Nice) and at The Explorer’s Club (New York) throughout the week.

    The 2025 photo competition was coordinated in collaboration between the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, DPG, Oceanic Global, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Since its inception in 2014, the competition has been curated by underwater and wildlife photographer Ellen Cuylaerts, and judged by a world-renowned panel of judges. Judges for 2025 included: underwater photographer Ipah Uid Lynn (Malaysia), underwater photographer William Tan (Singapore), wildlife photographer Vanessa Mignon (France), and underwater photographer Marcello Di Francesco (Italy).

    The Photo Competition for UN World Oceans Day is a free-and-open public competition that calls on photographers and artists from around the world to communicate the beauty of the ocean and the importance of the respective United Nations World Oceans Day theme each year. All winners and participants in the competition signed a charter of 14 commitments regarding ethics in photography. Winning photos from 2025 as well as from previous years can be viewed via the virtual gallery on www.unworldoceansday.org and on DPG’s World Oceans Day Photo Competition mini-site.     DPG is pleased to announce the opening of the 12th annual Photo Competition for UN World Oceans Day, surrounding the 2025 theme, “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us.” Complementing the UN’s World Oceans Day celebration preceding the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France, this year’s competition draws on the power of the arts to expand our perspectives and appreciation for our blue planet, and ignite a wave of action towards necessary change.

    The 2025 Photo Competition for UN World Oceans Day is a free and open-to-the-public competition coordinated in collaboration between the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, DPG, Oceanic Global, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, and Nausicaá. The 12th annual competition presents a unique opportunity for photographers to showcase the immense breadth and depth of the ocean’s beauty as well as to shed light on the lesser-known promise and potential brimming beneath its waves. The following four categories are now open for submissions:

    1. Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us

    2. Big and Small Underwater Faces

    3. Underwater Seascapes

    4. Above Water Seascapes

    Winners will be announced on UN World Oceans Day, June 8th—this year celebrated in Nice—hosted by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, in partnership with Oceanic Global, and published on DPG shortly afterwards.

    Since its inception, the annual competition has been curated by underwater photographer Ellen Cuylaerts and judged by a jury of renowned photographers. This year is no exception, with the 2025 jury comprising underwater photographer Ipah Uid Lynn (Malaysia), underwater photographer William Tan (Singapore), wildlife photographer Vanessa Mignon (France), and underwater photographer Marcello Di Francesco (Italy).     New World Record for Scuba Diving All Seven Continents



    Scuba divers are known for being well-trodden world travelers. But one man has taken dive log travel to record levels.

    Diver travel influencer Barrington Scott has recently set the Guinness World Record for fastest person to scuba dive all seven continents in a row—in just 19 days, 19 hours and four minutes.

    The intrepid diver covered more than 27,000 miles to accomplish the task, which took place in late November of last year. New additions to his logbook include stops in Thailand, Malta, Egypt, Malta, and Argentina. The record-setting plunge took place in the frigid waters of Antarctica.

    “When I finished my final dive, I called my sisters first to share the good news,” Scott told Essence.com.  “I could feel the pride and excitement in their voices—it made the achievement feel even more real.”

    Scott’s journey into the record books is a long time in the works. After dropping out of New York City’s foster care system as an adolescent, he joined the Marines and served in Afghanistan. Following his service, Scott earned a culinary degree and spent a year backpacking in Asia.

    Finally, in 2014 he took the giant stride into diving in the Bahamas and never looked back. Scott eventually worked his way up to Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) and even authored a book on his adventures, Trent’s Adventures: Deep Sea Discovery, hoping to inspire young ocean explorers of all backgrounds.

    “Breaking a Guinness World Record isn’t just about making history; it’s about showing that we belong in these spaces,” Scott shared on Instagram. “Black explorers, Black divers, Black adventurers—we’ve always been here, and we will continue to push boundaries.”

    DJI Has Released A Teaser Clip “Spin Your World” Ahead Of Its Product Launch


    DJI has been one of the leading manufacturers for high quality drones and they have constantly been innovative and bringing drones into the market that suits every photographer’s needs. Their drones range from beginner’s to professional models and the technologies, hardware used are constantly improved with each new model.

    While a lot of drone professionals have been waiting for this new drone that has been rumoured about, DJI released a new teaser on its channels, which is a very short video clip titled “Spin Your World.” It looks like the drone’s gimbal is capable of rotating, which means it will be a great feature for filmmakers and content creators to capture dramatic aerial footage.

    The video released by DJI shows how the drone is capable of capturing more dynamic videos using unique perspectives. The footage on DJI’s social media like X and YouTube, also shows a three camera system which is spherical with “Hasselblad” written on top. The spherical system may allow for more flexibility for the cameras to move sideways, up and down and may come with advanced stabilization features.

    A lot of rumoured information have been flooding online sites and forums about the new drone and its specifications. Followers on social media and especially drone enthusiasts, seem to be very excited about this new technology and predict this drone could be a Mavic 4 Pro following DJI’s Mavic 3 series.

    The new drone seems to have a compact foldable design like its predecessors and may be weighing less than a kilogram. This also means that the drone pilot will need a license to fly the drone in most countries. The product is expected to be launched next week on the 13th of May.
