Ikelite Launches Two More OM System TG-7 Housing and Ecko Strobe Kits

Underwater Housing for OM System Tough TG-7, TG-6 and Ecko Strobes Wide Angle Kit

After launching of its Ecko Fiber and Ecko DS strobes, Ikelite released, in June, two kits bundling the fiber-optically triggered model with the OM System Tough TG-7 camera, housing, and various accessories—one bundling a single strobe and another bunding a pair of strobes.

The kits are perfect for shooters starting out with nothing, since the camera itself is included, but for owners of the OM System TG-7 or the Olympus TG-5 or Olympus TG-6 (all of which have the same basic functionality), Ikelite has introduced two new kits that bundle the Ecko Fiber with just housing and accessories.

The first kit, the “Wide Angle Kit” (above), comprises the housing with six-inch dome port, tray with dual handles, two Ecko Fiber strobes, strobe arms, and fiber-optic cords. The camera is not included and neither is the Olympus FCON-T02 fisheye lens for which this setup is specifically designed. Note that you’ll still get the benefits of the dome port even without the fisheye lens, but it’s highly recommended for a proper wide-angle perspective.

The second kit, the “Deluxe Kit” (below), comprises housing, tray with single handle, single Ecko Fiber strobe, strobe arm, and fiber-optic cord. The camera itself isn’t included. With this housing, you still have the option of adding the FCON-T02 lens and dome port later—and, of course, a second strobe if you want.

Available from Ikelite, the new “Wide Angle Kit” is retailing for $2,020, while the new “Deluxe Kit” costs $1,145.

  • AOI Launches UCS-Q1i Strobe

    AOI Launches UCS-Q1i Strobe

AOI has released a new addition to its Q1-series of Ultra Compact Strobes, which includes the UCS-Q1 and UCS-Q1 RC. The UCS-Q1i was unveiled at the recent Malaysia International Dive Exhibition (MIDE) in Kuala Lumpur. According to the press release (see below), the new fiber-optically triggered strobe “combines the best features from the UCS-Q1 and UIS-P1”—though the UCS-Q1i features a straight flash tube as opposed to the circular flash tube of the UIS-P1.

Depth-rated to 60 meters (200 feet), the UCS-Q1i boasts a guide number (GN) of 22, a color temperature of 5600K, and an 85° beam angle with diffusor attached. AOI claims a recycle time of just 0.85s after a full power dump and 1,500 flashes at full power. The strobe features the same built-in 700-lumen continuous light found on the UCS-Q1 and UCS-Q1 RC, and also runs on a pair of 18650 Li-ion rechargeable batteries (3,100mAh).

Like the UIS-P1, the new strobe features InTeLi mode, which is designed to ensure that TTL exposure is “accurate and consistent” across different camera systems. The mode encompasses support for Sony TTL and i-Macro, OM System/Olympus RC TTL and i-Macro, and TTL HSS and M-HSS. In manual mode, output can be adjusted in six increments, from full power to 1/64 power.

Priced at $500, the AOI Q1i strobe is available now—in black or white finish—from retailers such as Backscatter.

  • Fujifilm Launches X half – A Compact Digital Half-Frame Camera

Fujifilm Launches X half – A Compact Digital Half-Frame Camera

Fujifilm has announced the global launch of its most recent camera in the X series, the X half, in June 2025. It is for photographers who would like to rediscover the beauty of film photography in digital format and the design and features are based on the concept of classic half-frame cameras.

    Image via Fujifilm

The Fujifilm X half or the X-HF1, will be the latest model in the X series and the camera weighs only 240g. The camera design and features evolve from the half frame film cameras that were capable of shooting at half the size of 35mm film. This is not their first half-frame camera – of the many film cameras Fujifilm introduced, Fujica Half was a half frame camera that was released in 1963.

The camera comes with a frame advance lever so photographers can have a film camera experience in digital format. The aspect ratio used is 3:4 which is very different from what is used in most digital cameras.

The camera comes with a vertical optical viewfinder and an LCD monitor that helps with vertical composition. There is also a “2in1” function that allows to have two vertical images in a single frame which will be great to create storytelling images.

    Image via Fujifilm

The film simulation feature will allow the user to have photographic film effects when capturing their images. Besides the simulations there are various filters that can be used based on the subject or scene one is shooting.

There is also a film camera mode in the X half model, that allows the photographer to shoot through the viewfinder and use the frame advance lever to advance to the next shot. There will be no option to view or preview the images until a specified number of shots are taken.

Here are some of the most important product features:

    • 18MP vertical CMOS sensor
    • Capture still and videos in 3:4 aspect ratio
    • Back illuminated 1 inch sensor
    • 10.8mm f/2.8 prime lens
    • Create composite photos using the frame advance lever
    • Dedicated X half app to create collages and make edits, create 2in1 and contact sheets
    • 13 film simulation modes and 26 filters
    • Date stamp feature
    • Film camera mode to experience film photography, can be selected between 36, 54 or 72-shots and cancelled any time
    • Prints can be made directly from the camera using Instax Link series

More information about this product can be found here. The camera is priced at $849.00 and is available to pre-order. Fujifilm mentions that it has named this product “X half” envisioning that it would be a great camera for both newcomers and enthusiasts in photography, but the cost and features seem that this camera could be for someone who takes up photography for fun.

  • Sony Launches The World’s First 50-150mm F/2 Lens

Sony Launches The World’s First 50-150mm F/2 Lens

Sony has announced a telephoto lens with a unique focal range, the FE 50 – 150mm f/2 GM lens which is the world’s first lens to have a maximum focal length of 150mm and f/2 aperture. The lens is lighter, weighing at about 1340g. This the company’s second f/2 zoom lens in the GM series.

The zoom range of this lens, 50-150mm and the f/2 fixed aperture along the entire zoom range, makes it a great lens for wedding, portrait and event photographers where the subject can be isolated with a shallow depth of field. Unfortunately the lens does not have internal image stabilization.

    Image via Sony

Similar to Sony’s range of G Master series of other lenses, the FE 50-150mm f2 GM lens produces stunning images of very high resolution and beautifully smooth bokeh. This will make this lens a great choice for professional photographers who already work with the Sony Alpha camera system. This lens will also be a great choice for professional video makers because of its stunning cinematic results and great clarity.

The lens comes with Nano anti-reflection coating, that will help to reduce flare and ghosting significantly even in backlit situations. The lens also comes with four extreme dynamic linear motors for faster and accurate focusing.

Some of the most important features of this lens are:

    • Focal length – 50 to 150mm, E mount lens
    • Maximum aperture – f/2
    • Aperture blades – 11, rounded aperture
    • Lens elements – 19 elements in 17 groups
    • Filter size – 95mm
    • Image stabilization – No
    • Internal focusing and zooming – Yes
    • Aperture, focus and zoom rings
    • Weather and dust sealed
    • Weight – 1340g

The lens seems to be quite expensive, priced at $3,899.99 and is available to pre-order now. The estimated shipping date is towards the end of May, 2025. More details about this lens can be found here.
